Amino acids and vitamins offer a wide range of benefits to any garden. For example, amino acids serve as chelation agents, which makes minerals more available for uptake, and consequently improves nutrient absorption. Speaking of nutrition, amino acids also serve as a readily available source of nitrogen. In addition they play a role in the formation of auxins and phytohormones. Beyond this, they may improve resistance to stress, a quality they share with vitamins. Plants are quite capable of providing all the vitamins needed for growth under normal conditions. On the other hand, stressful conditions such as high heat, excess salinity, dry spells, or the intense demands of controlled environment agriculture, may call for vitamin supplementation if a garden is to reach its full potential. Surely then, amino acids and vitamins make an excellent to addition to any gardener’s tool kit.
